Die Casting — High- and Low-Pressure Casting of Aluminium and Metal

We offer die casting in both high-pressure and low-pressure processes for the manufacture of components with high precision, excellent surface finish and very good repeatability. Die casting is an efficient and cost-effective method for series production of metal components in large volumes.

The method is particularly well suited for applications with stringent requirements for dimensional accuracy, surface quality and mechanical properties.

What is die casting?

Die casting is a process in which molten metal is injected into a permanent steel die under high pressure. The die is cooled and opened after solidification, and the finished component is ejected. The process provides excellent precision and enables thin wall thicknesses and complex geometries.

Die casting is widely used in the automotive, electronics, mechanical engineering and energy sectors.

High-pressure and low-pressure die casting

High-pressure die casting (HPDC)

In high-pressure die casting, molten metal is injected into the die at very high pressure, resulting in excellent surface finish, tight tolerances and the ability to produce thin-walled components. The method is ideal for large production volumes.

Advantages:

  • Excellent surface finish
  • Tight dimensional tolerances
  • Thin wall sections possible
  • High production rates
  • Good repeatability

Low-pressure die casting (LPDC)

In low-pressure die casting, the metal is fed into the die at lower pressure, which provides better control over the filling process and reduces porosity. The method is well suited for larger components with high demands on mechanical properties.

Advantages:

  • Reduced porosity
  • Good mechanical properties
  • Suitable for larger components
  • Excellent material yield

Materials

Common materials for die casting:

  • Aluminium alloys (e.g. AlSi9Cu3, AlSi12)
  • Zinc alloys
  • Magnesium alloys
  • Copper alloys

Applications

Die castings are used across a wide range of industries including automotive, electrical enclosures, industrial machinery, hydraulic components, lighting and consumer products.
